Floral crowns are a beautiful midsummer tradition, especially in Scandinavia and, while they may fill some with hippy chick phobia, I adore them. After being subjected to a lot of plastic tiara in the last few years, the natural beauty of flowers is a breath of fresh air. They're pagan, of course, part of our deep rooted attachment to the cycles of the earth and honouring that. As such, they're also pleasingly secular.
There's lots of ways to make them, but I like to gather small bouquets and tie them together to create a long skein, which you then bind in a circle. They are fleeting, just a window into a beautiful midsummer garden that you can wear.
