Nothing With A Face...

I've been a vegetarian for over 30 years now and it is a really fundamental part of my identity - simply put, I don't want to eat or wear anything that has a face. It's an easy choice for me, but what's not so easy is finding stylish alternatives to leather. So many of them are made unethically or poorly, it can be a real minefield. So, with that in mind, I thought I'd create a gallery to showcase all the items that I love, which look great and come cruelty free to boot!

Wooden Watches

In the past I've really struggled with watches. I could never find one that fits my long list of requirements, so I often ended up just using my phone to tell the time instead. My whole style ethos, in clothes, accessories and interiors, is to find items that look simple, classical, elegant, timeless, traditional and, most importantly, natural so, not surprisingly, a leather refusenik like me is left with very few options. In fact, just one - Metal, but it's a pretty cold and heavy material for a stick wristed person like me and, more often than not, I'm often allergic to it. With metal and leather ruled out, it's incredibly hard for me to find something that fits my criteria, so I was delighted when I came across these wooden watches from Jord. A wooden strap is warm, light, organic and comfortable. It's also great as an ethical shopper because they use sustainable source materials; olive wood, bamboo and maple, amongst others. Faces come in all colours, but as navy is my neutral, that was the obvious choice.

By the by, as mentioned above, a wooden watch is also a brilliant choice if, like me, you have an allergy to nickel; so often I've bought something in metal only to discover that it contains trace nickel and come up in raging hives within a few short hours! Not a good look. These are 100% natural wood and stainless steel, so I remain hive free and finally able to tell the time without having to pull my phone out of my pocket...
